Whole-person health will take centre stage in the US as the National Institutes of Health launches a five-year research initiative to connect the complex anatomy and function of the body’s organs and systems into a single map. First and foremost the project will create a detailed digital map of the human body for research purposes and the development of new treatments. It remains to be seen whether or not it will also foster a new era of whole-person focused health to prevent disease and promote vibrant health and wellbeing
A new US randomised clinical trial known as ‘BackInAction’, published in Red JAMA abierta, shows just how effective and safe natural health treatments can be after it found acupuncture reduced back pain in older adults (65+ years) more effectively than usual medical care over a 6- and 12-month period. In addition, the treatment was found to be safe with no adverse reactions.

- Insect populations in a relatively untouched wild area in Colorado have declined by over 72% in the past 20 years highlighting the very real issue of biodiversity loss globally. In a new study, published in Ecology, the author warns the decline in this particular wilderness area that’s relatively free from human incursion, should be seen as a red flag given the essential role insects play in ecosystems, food webs and for pollination, pest control and nutrient cycling.

- Efforts to change the regulatory landscape around gene edited organisms continues apace, while Big Ag corporates continue to hijack the regenerative and sustainable farming space:
- In Chile, wheat genetically altered using CRISPR techniques to contain more fibre, has bypassed national regulatory systems as it’s not considered to be a GMO, because it doesn’t contain a new combination of genetic material, by the Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG)
- In the EU a new EFSA opinion gives the gene editing of animals a free pass as it concludes such animals pose no more hazards than those edited using ‘traditional’ GMO techniques (referred to as established genomic techniques)
- A recent article reflects the silent creep of biotech in Africa as it seeks to dismiss the concerns of local NGOs defending food sovereignty adapted to local conditions, over the impact of gene edited organisms on indigenous farming systems and crops
- Farmland in the US is set to become the next major investment asset as AcreTrader, a farmland investment platform is acquired by asset manager, Proterra Investment Partners. The move continues the commoditisation of our food systems and nature itself
- A new position paper from Climate Farmers (a non-profit with a for-profit arm) warns that today’s soil carbon markets reward industrial monocultures while sidelining small, regenerative farms. High costs, rigid rules, and a fixation on carbon alone risk turning credits into little more than accounting tricks though. Rather than driving real regeneration, current schemes designed to profit from ‘regen’ agriculture may entrench the very systems causing the damage and preventing significant, measurable changes designed to protect and work with nature.

- Glyphosate, the world’s most widely used weedkiller, may damage the kidneys by latching onto key proteins that keep our tissues stable. This disruption could pave the way for the development of kidney disease and even cancer. The findings, which come from a new study published in Informes científicos, add to mounting evidence that glyphosate is not just a farming tool, but a potential public health threat that urgently needs independent scrutiny.

- At a US Senate hearing last week, chaired by Sen Ron Johnson, attorney Aaron Siri revealed a retrospective vaccinated vs unvaccinated comparative study from 2020, comparing 18,000 children (16,000 vaccinated and 2,000 unvaccinated), that was shoved in a drawer to lie unpublished. The results were stark: vaccinated kids had more than three times the rate of chronic illness, with sharply higher levels of autoimmune and neurodevelopmental disorders. After 10 years, 57% of vaccinated children had at least one chronic condition versus just 17% of the unvaccinated. Siri testified the study was shelved because its findings challenged the narrative of vaccine safety and effectiveness, which could have been compromised by the study had it been published
- Turning vaccine propaganda into a ‘game’ is a dangerous step toward psychological manipulation. Sander van der Linden PhD is once again raising his head above the parapet to promote his ‘game’ that uses so-called ‘prebunking’. Far from helping people to discern what’s credible or misleading information, it strips people of critical thinking by training them to dismiss inconvenient facts before they’ve even had a chance to weigh the evidence. Far from empowering the public, this is social engineering designed to protect a fragile narrative rather than safeguard health.

- Curcumin, a key component of turmeric used widely in traditional medicine, can help tackle periodontal disease and other oral health issues. A new systematic review published in GMS Hygiene and Infection Control finds using curcumin in a range of different formulations can decrease inflammation and improve healing. Although the most widely studied component of turmeric, using the whole root rather than just isolated and concentrated curcumin, packs a huge phytonutrient punch bringing beneficial effects to the whole body.

- Eating animal protein may reduce your risk of dying from cancer. That’s the controversial conclusion of a new study published in Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism that adds to the debate about eating animal protein. Media headlines screamed that eating meat may protect against cancer deaths, neglecting the paper’s focus on all animal proteins, while much criticism has been levelled at the paper not only for its conclusions, but for its methodology and funding source—The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. Despite the headlines, the authors found little difference between eating plant or animal proteins in terms of all-cause or CVD risk of death and a small reduction in the risk of dying from cancer, flying fairly and squarely in the face of established dogma.

- Artificial flavourings, colourings and sweeteners used in ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are significantly associated with a risk of dying from all causes. Published in Medicina eClinical a new study focuses on the health effects of a range of additives used in UPFs, which also found that not all additives are linked to all-cause mortality. The study should act as a wakeup call to those who consistently defend UPFs as benign affordable foods with few adverse health effects
- As the spread of UPFs around the globe continues, a new UNICEF report finds that childhood obesity rates have more than tripled since 2000. A shocking one in five children aged 5-19 globally are overweight, while 1 in 10 are obese. The report lays the blame fairly and squarely in the lap of UPFs as they rapidly replace traditional wholefood diets. Unless we move back to largely unprocessed wholefood diets children will continue the slide into morbid obesity and related chronic disease states, putting them at risk of a lifetime of potentially debilitating health conditions and short lifespans
- Obesity in children could potentially accelerate the ageing of their heart and blood vessels due to increased levels of visceral fat (fat around internal organs). Using data from the UK Biobank, scientists publishing in the Revista Europea del Corazón, found that the distribution of fat predicts cardiovascular ageing. The more visceral fat you have (thin people can be fat on the inside also) the more likely you are to experience premature ageing of your cardiovascular system.

Actualización de ANH-USA
- A landmark petition filed by the ANH-USA team last week could, at last, allow 118 suppressed, government-backed nutrient-disease claims to be used on the labels of food, functional foods, medical foods, and dietary supplements to enable Americans’ to learn about the health benefits of different nutrients. The petition is a fight for transparency, consumer rights, and public health. If successful, it would mark a turning point in Americans’ ability to access credible, government-backed nutrition science where it matters most: on the products they buy and use every day. Find out more and download the media pack…
What if something as simple, safe, and inexpensive as vitamin D supplementation could lower your risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke? A new meta-analysis shows just that but supplement manufacturers aren’t allowed to tell people about this, which is just one reason why the ANH-USA team filed a petition seeking approval of 118 disease-nutrient claims. Free Speech Threats
- We live in a world where our right to freedom of speech and freedom of expression is coming under significant attack. A new report, tracking democracy across the globe, from the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) found the biggest decline in the Freedom of the Press since 1975, while 1 in 5 countries, including the United Kingdom, Greece, Italy and Taiwan, were found to have experienced declines in Freedom of Expression. This makes it even harder to know how the information we do receive is being controlled by the world’s new information puppet masters. This is particularly problematic for the younger generation who’ve never been exposed to a free press or free media and have been conditioned by distorted media and propaganda.

- US Senator, Rand Paul, has revealed that Anthony Fauci directed colleagues to delete covid related emails after reading them, despite denying such behaviours under oath. Fauci is now being called to testify before Senator Paul and the House Committee on Homeland and Government Affairs to answers the accusations
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating reports of child deaths following covid jabs. The investigation will focus on data held in the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). In an interview, FDA Commissioner, Dr Marty Makary, said the investigation has faced resistance from some in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as access to data sources was blocked. The report is expected to be published in the next few weeks. The Defender has more.
