- UK scientists are to launch outdoor field trials of geoengineering experiments as part of a £50m government-funded programme. There have been various reports that experiments to dim sunlight in an attempt to fight global warming will be given the green light by the Government within weeks, which will make the UK one of the biggest funders of geoengineering research in the world. Trials, which include spraying large quantities of reflective particles into the stratosphere, are being considered by scientists. Advanced Research and Invention Agency (Aria), the UK government agency backing the plan has set aside £50 million for projects, which will be announced in the coming weeks. Sign and share the petition to stop geoengineering experiments in the UK. Tampering with the flow of solar energy to planet Earth that directly, or indirectly, provides almost all of the energy used by living organisms on the planet is of deep concern given the complexity of these systems
- Funding for Gain of Function (GOF) research has been banned in the USA by President Trump. An Executive Order outlines the terms of the funding withdrawal both in the US and abroad. The order also directs government agencies to track high-risk bioengineering activity outside of federally funded channels, as the Trump administration recognises the threat of such research in creating further lab-derived pandemics
- Researchers developing low acrylamide wheat have hit a snag. They’re struggling to remove foreign DNA, left after it’s been gene edited, from the wheat. A process that’s deemed necessary to enable the final product to evade GM regulations and labelling. The problem highlights the very real problem of foreign DNA in gene edited products, which is being largely overlooked and dismissed by those supporting the fast-tracking of such technologies. It’s also the very concern we’ve voiced for many years over the potential risk of gene editing.

- Young men are the latest to come under the spotlight as the push to reduce meat consumption continues. A new report from environmental charity Hubbub blames an increase in meat eating in young men aged 16-24 years, on what’s termed the ‘manosphere’. Described as a toxic mix of masculinity and men’s rights activism. The report details Hubbub’s attempts to reverse the swing by convincing young men they don’t need meat to enhance their masculinity and that plant proteins are as good, if not better, than meat, as well as being a more environmentally friendly option.

- Could Skullcap be the next big thing for sleeplessness? Traditionally used for anxiety, neurological disorders and insomnia Scutellaria lateriflora L, was found to restore the sleep-wake cycle and improve the life of people with insomnia, in a small controlled, randomised, crossover, double-blind clinical trial, published in Nutrienti,
- As health authorities and governments start to recognise the health harms of vapes and ban access for adolescents (UK, Australia, France) news of a new type of vape hits the airwaves. Known as ‘penjamins’, the vapes (often used to vape cannabis oil) are being disguised as pens, lip balms and other everyday items allowing secretive use. This raises the concern that Penjamins will encourage and enable adolescents to evade the vape bans.

- With the health harms of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) under the spotlight, the NOVA classification system used to define what constitutes a UPF, has come under significant attack from those pushing UPFs. Now the Task Force on Food Processing for Nutrition, Diet and Health established by the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) has developed an alternative to NOVA, published in npj | Science of Food, which aims to provide a more nuanced system for classifying what is or isn’t considered to be a UPF by also considering nutritional value. The proposed system distinguishes between intrinsic nutritional value of the food through the use of a Nutrition Rich Food Index (NRFI) as well as the effects of formulation and processing, through the related Formulation and Processing Food Index (FPFI). The international group of researchers suggest that factors such as safety, sustainability, palatability, affordability and convenience could be included in future iterations of the system
- Babies fed ultra-processed foods are more likely to suffer from gut dysbiosis and elevated levels of microbes linked to an increased risk of future obesity and gut problems. Research from Brazil published in Nutrizione clinica, found breastfeeding gave some protection to babies fed UPFs, while those that were breastfed and not given UPF products had a more stable gut microbiome and better health markers
- A recent meeting of the Codex Committee on Food Additives (CCFA55) considered lab-grown meat. The National Health Federation (NHF) reports that the FAO Science Officer intimated the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Consultation on Food Additives (JECFA) safety review would be a mere formality, suggesting a new food category be created for it. However, the WHO Science Officer was less enthusiastic suggesting further scrutiny was required.

- Exposure to radiofrequency (RF) radiation from cell phones has been linked to the development of prostate cancer in a new pooled analysis published in the Fortune Journal of Health Sciences. The highest risk was associated with long-term cell phone use (over 10 years or 2,000 hours) in men with a family history of prostate cancer
- An incisive new analysis from an international team of authors, published in the Journal of Agrarian Change, finds yet again that far from reducing agricultural pesticide inputs, the introduction and use of GM crops has increased pesticide use. Given Bayer’s recent announcement of a new GM soybean that will be tolerant to 5 different herbicides in order to counter the ongoing problem of resistant weeds, it seems likely that industrial agriculture has no plan to decrease herbicide input
- A new report from the European Coordination Via Campesina (Eurovia) Seeds & GMOs Working Group sets out how peasant farmers will be devastated should EU proposals to deregulate gene edited plants go ahead as planned, which will effectively hand over control of our food systems to a few global agri-tech companies.

- Administration of a flu vaccine either by itself or in conjunction with a covid vaccine can disrupt women’s menstrual cycles. The author of a study published in Rete JAMA aperta, has dismissed the finding, whilst others caution that this is a major, not minor finding. The Defender has more
- The US NIH has announced the development of a new vaccine platform called Generation Gold Standard, which uses a beta-propiolactone (BPL)-inactivated, whole-virus platform as part of the continued search for universal flu and coronavirus vaccines.

Imagine pouring a glass of milk that never came from a cow. No sunlit pasture, no soil—just a sterile vat in a lab where genetically modified microbes churn out something that resembles the real thing. Sounds like something out of a dystopian film of our food future – except it’s not the future it’s what’s happening to our food supply right now. Slick marketing assures us such ‘food’ products are safe and sustainable, but what’s the real story? Now’s the time to write to Congress to call for more testing for these frankenfoods, before it’s too late!
Free Speech Concerns
- Multiple medical journals have received a letter from the US Department of Justice questioning their editorial practices and standards. As part of the enquiry the way they deal with ‘misinformation’, competing viewpoints and undue influence from supporters, funders, advertisers and others is put under the spotlight. An issue we have raised on multiple occasions over the past few years.

- The Times Crime and Justice Commission, an initiative from The Times newspaper, aims to find solutions to problems being experienced in the UK justice system. The recommendations of the Committee give a free pass to the introduction of a universal digital ID system, use of live facial recognition and other AI tools by the Police and further restriction of access to social media for under-16s all in the name of fighting crime.

Covid collegato
- Pfizer covid shots are associated with a 36% increased risk of all-cause mortality compared with the Moderna shots according to a recent pre-print paper using data from Florida and co-authored by the Florida Surgeon General, Dr Joseph Ladapo
- An analysis of Greek data published in Natura, brings further insight to the issues of how deaths were recorded during covid. Researchers looking at the coding of deaths during the Omicron wave of covid, found that 55% of deaths in Greek hospitals attributed to covid were ‘due’ to covid. The other 45% were found to be deaths ‘with’ covid, even though they’d been counted as covid deaths
- Spike protein has been found in female stroke victims’ cerebral arteries up to 17 months after they were given covid mRNA vaccines. Japanese researchers, publishing in the Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, examining the cases of 19 haemorrhagic stroke victims from 2023 and 2024 found spike protein in the tissues and organs of 44% of those examined. The researchers stated their findings raise “significant concerns” about the safety of mRNA vaccines.
